The life of the Anglican Church of St. Clement, Eglinton extends far beyond the Sunday morning services and other special events. St. Clement's is blessed with committees and groups which either help to serve us in our worship life, or provide a wonderful source of fellowship for parishioners and others. Find out about our Groups.

Parish Committees
Wardens
The Wardens are members of the
parish whose overall purpose is to represent the interest of the
parish and to act jointly in matters concerning church uses and
grounds, in consultation with the Rector. The Rector's Warden and
People's Warden are the Corporation that takes primary responsibility
for these matters. Together with the Deputy Wardens, they create
a financial reporting of the parish and prepare a budget (in consultation
with the Finance Committee). The wardens sometimes partner with
the Committee chairs to implement projects and to stay in touch
with what is happening in the ongoing life of the parish. Wardens
serve a two year tenure, starting off as Deputy Warden and continuing
as either Rector's Warden or People's Warden.
See our contact
page for a list of wardens and their emails.
Parish Life Committee
Growing In Faith was a five year initiative begun in 2002 to
bring the parish into greater contact with its own dreams for the
mission and service of St. Clement's within itself and to the wider
community. A group of individuals continues to discern the needs
of the parish in terms of long term sustainability and growth.
Contact: Peter Stephenson and Frankie Wright, Co-Chairs
Communications
The Communications Committee looks for ways to increase our knowledge
of the life within the parish and to convey that vibrant life more
fully to the community around us. The
committee develops new projects and also oversees St. Clement's
publications, including the quarter-annual Chronicles, and the updating
and maintenance of the St. Clement's website. In the coming months,
the Communications Committee will help parishioners express themselves
as we explore our identity in the Growing In Faith project.

Chair
Christian Education
The Education Committee works to ensure a broad and balanced curriculum
of education for all ages and groups in the parish. The Committee
works with the Christian Education Director to ensure a strong Church
school program; oversee and evaluate adult education and work in
conjunction with the operation of the Church library.

Finance
The Finance Committee oversees the financial health and wellbeing
of the Church in all its aspects. Working with the Investment Committee,
it helps to determine how to make the best use of St. Clement's
assets and prepares the annual budget for the Corporation.

Landscaping
The Landscape Committee oversees the landscaping and garden areas
surrounding the Church building. In 2002, Spring burst forth with
hundreds of daffodils blowing in the breeze at the Briar Hill entrance
while tulips waved their heads in the nursery windows of the St.
Clement's entrance. We were able to plant nearly 30 flats of annuals
in ever extending beds surrounding the church and within the courtyard.
By midsummer the new sign was bordered with small evergreen and
flowering shrubs blooming merrily away. Our labours of this past
fall, with the planting of over 700 bulbs will bring bright results
this coming Spring. This hands-on committee needs many volunteers
for the ongoing planting and tilthing of our church grounds. We'll
show you how.

Outreach
The Outreach Committee of St. Clement's is the umbrella group that
supports the work of many different projects and seeks to find ways
in which our parishioners can work with those outside the parish
at community, local, provincial, national and international levels.
Outreach meets approximately every six weeks with smaller groups
meeting in between to continue or implement various projects. See
also the Beyond Our Doors page.

Property Committee
The Property Committee has the challenging task of finding the resources
necessary to help maintain the physical plant of the Church. In
recent years, it has overseen the campaigns to upgrade and/or restore
various vital aspects of the Church building and it ongoingly monitors
the condition of the Church's fundamental building systems. Currently,
it is involved in helping to restore the stained glass windows of
the Church. It participated in the renovation of the Rector's office.
The Committee partners with the Sexton of the Church to help realise
its goals.

Worship
The Worship Committee meets on a regular basis to assist and advise
the rector on matters pertaining to the liturgy and worship life
at St. Clements. Through continuous evaluation of our worship services,
maintaining close communication with the congregation and promoting
additional forms of worship consistent with our parish mission,
the committee strives to help the rector build on the fine traditions
that have developed at St. Clements over the years. Membership includes
the Clergy, Director of Music, Director of Christian Education and
a representative group of parishioners.

Welcome Ministry
All members of St. Clements are encouraged to welcome new members
to the parish and help them feel at home. The Welcome Ministry consists
of parishioners who inform newcomers on the church s activities
and partner with them to help them learn about parish life. The
Ministry has also arranged for publication of material providing
information to orient new members to the worship services of St.
Clements and a Newcomers Package. A Welcome Card allows newcomers
to request more information and follow-up if desired. Parishioners
are available on Sunday at the Welcome Table to provide personal
assistance.

Chancel Guild
The Chancel Guild has interesting and important ongoing responsibilities
which include looking after altar frontals, altar linens, silver
and brass, the setting up for all communion services, the ordering
and arranging of High Altar and Chapel flowers, also the Contact:for
Memorial flowers and the decorating of the Church for the festive
seasons. We have five meetings during the year including the Annual
Meeting and luncheon party in June. The Chancel Guild is in need
of new members and would welcome hearing from anyone interested
in helping with our work.
Contact: Leona Noel, Co-Ordinator
Communion Ministers
St. Clement's Communion Ministers are lay people of the parish who
have been invited to administer the chalices of wine during worship
services involving a Eucharist. This sacred responsibility is shared
by more than 20 members of the congregation who show continued dedicated
commitment to serving in the ministry throughout the year.
Contact: Joanna Campion and Patricia Crawford, Co-Ordinators
Intercessors
The Intercessors are members of the parish who lead the Prayers
of the People during the service, an integral part of the Eucharist.
The prayers are the intentions of the people for the community and
the larger world. Before each service, parishioners are given the
opportunity to include their own prayer requests in the intercessions
of that day, including prayers for those challenged by illness and
other adversity and those who have recently passed away. In this
way, the Intercessors help to support and uphold one another in
prayer.
Contact: Robin Harmer, Co-Ordinator
Readers
Like the Intercessors, the Readers provide an essential service
during the flow of Sunday worship, by reading the Lessons of the
day to the congregation. With strong, clear, engaging voices, they
help to bring the Word of God closer to the hearts and minds of
the congregation.
Contact: the Office.
Sacristans
Sacristans are members of the parish who share the sacred and important
task of setting up for the Eucharist. This involves preparing the
gifts of bread and wine for presentation at the altar, ensuring
the sanctuary is ready for worship, overseeing the ablutions and
various other liturgical duties as needed.
Servers
The Servers are made up of the Youth of
the parish, who enrich our liturgies by assisting in the flow of
the service. Servers guide members of the parish to the altar rail
and are an important presence in leading the clergy and choir into
and out of worship. Servers also occasionally act as acolytes (those
assisting with Eucharist preparation). Servers participate significantly
in the larger Church liturgical events, like the Christmas Festival
of Light and the Holy Week services.

Sidesteams
The Sidesteams represent one of the largest of St. Clement's groups.
Fifteen teams, comprising 130 men and women of the congregation
enable parishioners at the three Sunday services to worship in a
welcoming, comfortable and safe environment. These volunteers provide
leaflets to worshippers as they arrive, check the building for security
and safety during the services, maintain a careful account of the
number of people attending services and take up collection. Anyone
interested in joining the Sidesteams should leave a note in the
Sidesteam mailbox in the Church office.

Bible Study
The Bible Study Group meets on Tuesdays at 1:30 in the Reception Room.
Emphasis is on the Lectionary readings for the following Sunday, but
at the moment we are also looking briefly at the saga of the patriarchs
in Genesis. This is not an academic program. The aim is fellowship,
reading, and discussion; and all views, however heterodox, may be
aired.

Prayer Groups
Two principal prayer groups exist at St.Clement's. The Sunday morning
Prayer Group meets on Sunday mornings in the
Chapel at 10:40 a.m. Members of the 9:15 congregation are invited
to attend after enjoying conversation and coffee in the Reception
Room and those attending 11:00 can come in advance. The prayer group
meets especially to pray for the vitality, health and wellbeing of
the church, its growth and its community. The other prayer group exists
in the form of an email Prayer Chain:
if you would like to be part of either of
these prayer ministries, please call Anne Day at 416-489-4824 or Rosemary
West at 416-484-9465. Should you decide to participate in the Prayer
Chain, you would be asked to pray for the person or situation immediately
upon receiving the request.

Archives
Archives are a storehouse for preservation of the daily occurrences
within a parish and for preventing the destruction and loss of material
documenting those events. While they do not tell the story on their
own, they are the raw material from which future histories will come.
Historical documents are only useful if they are consulted, which,
in our case, they are periodically. Archives has a 50-page inventory
of the current holdings (usually primary sources) stored principally
in acid-free boxes. The Archive collection is now located in a separate,
lockable, windowless room near the Club Room. It is always preferable
to have too much material rather than too little. If you would like
to donate documents to St. Clement's Archives, label them Archives,
and leave them in the Church Office or contact Donald Holmes to make
arrangements for pick-up.

Link to Seniors
The mission of Link to Seniors is to maintain a strong relationship between the Church and senior members of the parish who are physically challenged. The group assists in providing transportation to those trying to attend Sunday services. It sustains itself through Spring, Fall, Christmas and Easter Eucharist and Luncheon events that are highly successful.

Parish Library
The Parish Library is located in the northeast corner of the Reception Room of the Church and is administered by the Education Committee. This wide and varied collection of books on religious topics is dedicated to the spiritual and educational development of the people of St. Clement's. During 2002, 52 books were added, some of them purchased new and others donated after some previous gentle use.

Special Events
The Special Events committee organizes the preparation and hosting of special receptions and events at St. Clements. They are a vital part of Church celebrations, and encourage a feeling of welcome and fellowship among parishioners at often auspiciously laid-out events.
Contact: the office.
Stephen Ministry
The Stephen Ministers are a group of seven dedicated, committed, caring people who listen to and walk with parishioners and people in the community as they deal with crisis or life problems. In 2002, Stephen Ministers cared for people grieving a death, living with a disability, living in isolation, dealing with a personal family problem, and more. Relationships last a few weeks, a year or sometimes continue until the care receiver is ready to move on with his or her life with confidence. We are actively looking for new members.
