Key points for those in transition included:

• No one who is between jobs should feel they are alone.
• As layoffs continue during the "jobless recovery" it is not uncommon to be laid off or want to change careers.
• Everyone has been through it.
• By reaching out and networking, you will be surprised how eager friends and people you may not even know can be to help.
• Most importantly, you need to begin with a clear understanding of what you do best and the job you really want.
• The act of finding the job you really want is a full time job in itself.

Alyson also emphasized the importance of researching an organization before going for an interview. Each company has a unique culture and you will gain an advantage if you understand its culture in advance.

Before accepting a position, you need to be sure it is the right fit for you. Even if you have been searching for some time, avoid the temptation of jumping into a new job before your questions are answered to your satisfaction.
