Outreach » Overview

The Outreach Committee of St Clement’s works to inform parishioners about social justice issues locally, nationally and internationally. We encourage and help direct our parishioners’ skills, talents and financial contributions, so that we can make a difference to those in need. We act primarily in the areas of housing, hunger, disease, and education. We also organize resources to support emergency relief activities.

Locally we support St. Bartholomew’s Food Bank, Flemingdon Park Food Bank,, Ingles House for young women, Matthew House for new immigrants, Faithworks [the diocese Outreach], Monaco Place, and  The St Clement's Wednesday Community Lunch Program. We also provide Christmas Baskets for Moorelands to support inner city families.

Recently one of our Wednesday Lunch guest created a booklet comprising  an exhaustive list of agencies offering assistance to disadvantage people which has been distributed to more than 150 agencies across the city. Click here to download and read.

Internationally we contribute substantially to the Primate’s World Relief and Development Fund, the Stephen Lewis Foundation’s Grandmothers-to-Grandmothers Campaign, and Father Bruno’s Terrier Rouge School in Haiti. For several years St Clement’s parishioners have funded 50 scholarships for Father Bruno’s students. In 2008 we also sent funds to provide emergency food supplies and help rebuild homes destroyed by a hurricane in northern Haiti.

Outreach Committee members work hard to inform themselves and the congregation of opportunities to make a difference in the lives of people. We advocate on behalf of those in need. We're also responsible for St Clement’s Lenten Speakers Series and for organizing the Thanksgiving and Lenten envelopes each year. In order to lobby the provincial government for more affordable housing and poverty reduction, we've organized well-attended meetings with Michael Colle, MPP, and written to Premier Dalton McGuinty and the Housing Minister, The Honourable Jim Watson. As well, we've attended conferences on affordable housing and Anglican Outreach.

Some 16 men and women of all ages and backgrounds sit on the Outreach Committee. We meet once a month to review our programs and consider new requests for aid. We constantly look for ways to be more effective. Anyone who would like to join us to offer their ideas, experience, and enthusiasm to assist others, is very welcome!
