Outreach At St. Clement's
ONGOING OUTREACH PROGRAMMES:
Haiti Education and School Initiatives
St. Clement's has been supporting the work of Father Jean Bruno,
an Anglican Priest in Haiti. In a country where basic public education
is not available to half the population , Father Bruno raises funds
and administers a scholarship program for schools in Northern Haiti.
St. Clement's scholarships support 50 students in the elementary
schools for tuition, school books and uniforms. In addition, we
have also been pleased to help fund Father Bruno's new Terrier Rouge
School where construction is now complete, with plans to expand
as the student population grows. We contributed to the construction
of a Nutrition Centre which provided meals and a meeting place for
families not at the school as well as accomodation for visiting
medical staff.
Below are pictures some of the students who benefit from these scholarships.

HOUSING INITIATIVES!
Habitat for Humanity - "St. Clement's House!"
St. Clement’s House, a joint intitiative of both St. Clement's
church and Toronto Habitat for Humanity, involved the building of
a house specifically sponsored by St. Clement's for a habitat-designated
family during 2004-2005. The home has been dedicated and is now
occupied by our partner family. Their picture and story is featured
in Habitat for Humanity's 2004 Annual Report. More recently, members
of St. Clement's participated in a build on September 9th at McLevin
Woods, with plans also to participate in the St. Paul’s-Bloor
Street United Build, and the Build with Beth Tzedec synagogue in
October. Anybody with on-site experience is welcome to help out.
Contact the volunteer coordinator at www.torontohabitat.on.ca to
schedule your own personal building dates.

Somalian Families
St. Clement's continues to provide support and assistance to two
Somali families whom it helped to emigrate to Canada some ten years
ago. Fadumo and her family are assisted monthly with housing costs
and medical expenses which are not covered by public funding and
both Fadumo and Khadija receive occasional financial help for specific
needs. Over the next year, St. Clement's will explore ways to provide
further support to these families in helping them achieve increased
independence.
Ingles House
Ingles House, a residence for young women recovering from substance
abuse, is part of LOFT Community Services (formerly Anglican Houses).
In recent years, St Clement's funded specific needs of two residents
including acquiring a winter coat and boots and assisting in transportation
costs so that a young mom could visit her babies. The parish has
also funded emergency dental care and necessities of life for some
women who are moving out on their own after completing the Ingles
House program. The goal is for girls to feel cared for, who otherwise
have no one else to care for them. Members of Outreach planted the
garden at Ingles House 12 years ago and do spring upkeep each year.
At Christmas, St Clement's fills the Ingles House "wish list", with
gifts for each girl and for the house. For specific ways that you

The women of the Wednesday lunch program
|
Wednesday Community Lunch
Every Wednesday from 10:30 to 12:30, the Community Lunch program
provides a hot, nourishing lunch, as well as warm clothing and supplies,
for people in need in the North Toronto area. Participants in the
program include parish members and volunteers from the surrounding
community. Those attending the lunches have also been assisted with
information on free medical care, dental care and housing and meal
information. Parishioners are invited to contribute food and clothing
to this program, and new volunteer helpers are always welcome.
Centennial Infant and Child Care Centre
Centennial is a nursery school that integrates children with special
needs into its classrooms and as well , with financial assistance
from St Clement's ,provides employment opportunities for adults
with special needs. Centennial was founded by one of our parishioners
and several members of the parish continue to volunteer there.
Lenten Speakers Series and Envelopes
Each year during Lent, the Outreach committee canvasses the parish
for support of individual organizations who provide local, national
or international aid services and ministries for social justice.
In 2006, the Lenten envelopes were: the Haitian student scholarships;
Primates World Relief and Development Fund, St. Peter's Food Bank,
AIDS in Africa and our own Wednesday Community Lunch program.
